this post is about posers. and the self proclaimed.
how many times do you see someone's profile picture as an image of them looking through the lense of a camera. or have people introduce themselves as 'designers' when they've never actually produced anything but chicken scratches on a piece of paper? i AM a student, i AM an aspiring fashion designer, i AM a budding artist. i have never told anyone that i am bigger or higher than all these things. i have wanted to be these things since i was in primary school and have been trying to get myself out there perseveringly. these so called 'designers' or self proclaimed 'photographers' take the piss of what it actually means to be these things.
my business teacher was saying how she thought there should be an even playing field when it comes to the students marking criteria, referring to the sources each student has access to. there are those who have all the money to spend on materials and equipment because mum and dad can provide that for them, and there are those who struggle to buy a pad of paper.
i know all these people who think they are now designers and photographers because they said so. they've all suddenly been blessed with the creativity over night. call it hating but please don't come up to me and talk creative, i am not your 'fellow designer' if you have no idea what it is to be one. you ARE still an amateur, you ARE a product of a mainstream society, you ARE not my competition because you ARE an imitation.
